Clearing up someone else’s mess
Clearing up someone else’s mess.
If you found my site via Google you will know that there are other alloy wheel repairers around the county. Many of them will do a good job for you, but not all!
As you can see on the picture above, when I started to prep the damage on a Jaguar XKR the lacquer from an earlier job kept peeling off. As with most jobs in life, most time should be spent on the preparation. It is certainly true in this game, because if you don’t get the preparation right the paint / lacquer will not adhere to the base properly. The result being that the smallest knock or chip will result in the top layers lifting, as here.
Some general advice regarding cleaning, be careful with that pressure washer. They are very powerful and if allowed too close to damaged paintwork, and that could be an little as a stone chip, they can very easily remove quite large areas of lacquer. I have seen sections as big as a playing card missing and that can result in a very costly repair.
